Mrs. Violet Menzies of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Mr. Alan Menzies, passed away on Thursday, March 13th, 2014 at the age of 74 years. Violet leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Lyle Menzies and Jimmy Menzies; one daughter, Carrie Menzies; and two grandsons, Derek Menzies and Curtis Menzies. Violet was predeceased by her husband, Alan; and one son, Dwayne Menzies in 1999. Violet was born and raised in Drumheller, Alberta. She married her childhood friend, Alan Menzies on March 1st, 1958. Alans coal mining career took them to various places throughout Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan. Violet and Alan settled on Vancouver Island in the 1980’s starting a logging business, with Violet bookkeeping for their company along with several others. They retired to Medicine Hat in 2008 to be closer to their daughter and grandson. Violet will be remembered for her avid love of reading. A Private Family Time of Remembrance will be held. Violet was our bookkeeper and friend for 10 years. I am was not aware she had passed away. She was much more too us than a bookkeeper.
