OSWALD JASTER

We, the family of Oswald (Ozzie) Jaster, sadly announce to his relatives, friends and acquaintances that our dear husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather has left us to join his Savior. Along with his loving wife, Ellen, Ozzie leaves to mourn his passing: daughters, Shirley Leachman (Lloyd Doucette) and Donalda (David) Cormier; step-son, Garth (Shelley) Glass; step-daughter, Valerie (Bob) Knowlden; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ozzie was predeceased by his first wife, Carol; parents, Bertha and Jacob as well as his sister, Anne. Ozzie was born in Golden Prairie on July 7, 1921, where he lived on a farm with his parents and his sister. He was a part of a large, loving extended family who laughed freely and lived life joyfully. Ozzie enlisted with the RCAF during the war where he was trained as an Air Frame mechanic and he displayed his natural mechanical abilities. Following the war, Ozzie married Carol Glass and after a stint in agricultural college in Prince Albert, they returned to farming in Golden Prairie. They quickly learned this was not the life for them and Ozzie began his apprenticeship as an automobile mechanic and moved to Medicine Hat. He pursued this career for over 50 years working up to Service Manager in the automotive business in Medicine Hat. During his career, Ozzie apprenticed many mechanics and ensured the customer’s vehicles operated in top notch condition. He was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he sang in the choir and was the head of the building committee that oversaw the construction of the new church on Sprague Way. He was also a member of the Southern Alberta Light Horse Regiment and the Lions Club. Ozzie and Carol were founding members of the Good Sam Club for RV’ers and met and traveled with many wonderful people. Throughout his long life, Ozzie was the father figure for Carol’s many siblings with the untimely death of their father. He provided guidance and was sought out for his clear thinking. After Carol’s death in 1988, Ozzie married Ellen Glass and they shared a wonderful life together traveling frequently and spending time with family and friends. Ozzie will be remembered for his ingenuity, love of life, ready smile and his loving commitment to his family. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful care givers at the Good Samaritans Retirement Home for the love and care provided to their husband and father over the past year and a half. The Funeral Service will be celebrated at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 515 Sprague Way S.E., Medicine Hat on Saturday, October 20, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Ken Edel officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
