McNEIL
Posted: April 29th, 2020Joanne Elaine McNeil (Lassesen) beloved wife of Marvin for 46 years, passed away peacefully at home in Sylvan Lake, Friday April 24, 2020. She will be forever missed by her family and friends. She is also survived by her children Ryan (Christina) McNeil and Stacey (Collin) Pacholek; 8 granddaughters Isabel, Bailey, Mackenzie, Savannah McNeil; Jasmine McDonald; Dana, Natalie, Lauren Pacholek; and 1 great grandson Sterling Hattersley. Her sisters Phyllis (Clarence) Ernst and Margaret (Lorimer) Olson; Sister in-laws Sharon (John Hill) Hallett, Lois (Don) Holloway and Bernice Lassesen; Cousin Eleanor (Clarence) Schroder; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents Palmer and Irene Lassesen, and brother James Lassesen.
Joanne was born on March 7, 1944 in Medicine Hat, AB when her dad was stationed at CFB Suffield during WWII, and was raised in Buck Lake, Gladstone, Bawlf and Camrose. At the age of 3 she was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, which although physically challenging, did little to alter her determination to live life her way, defying all preconceived notions from experts. She worked at Bethany in Camrose for 8 years before meeting the love of her life and getting married on November 16, 1973. She loved travelling with her husband on the pipelines, finally settling in Redcliff to raise her family. Joanne and Marvin finally retired to the place they always summered, Sylvan Lake, in the fall of 2019.
Joanne loved life, loved family, loved dancing, and all the fruits of indulgence. She adored her herd of sweet peas, who where a constant source of joy and laughter, and she was so proud of each and every one of them. Joanne will always be remembered for her incredible Viking like stubbornness; but even more so for her generous, loving and welcoming spirit. All who met her called her mom, friend, or grandma (nana).
At this time due to current circumstances, no service will be held until restrictions are lifted. In lieu of donations to charity, Joanne would have appreciated flowers
