COTE – Roger Andre –

Posted: August 18th, 2020

It is with great sadness that the family of Roger Andre Cote, announce his passing on August 8, 2020 at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital with family by his side, the angels came to get our dad. Formerly living on farms near Admiral and Cadillac, then the city of Swift Current and finally Medicine Hat. Roger was born on July 3, 1931 on the family farm near Admiral, SK. He graduated from Cadillac High School in the class of 1949. Dad and Mom (Shirley Boutin) were married on October 27, 1954. They made their first home on the farm 4 miles west of Cadillac where they raised their 7 children and resided until 2001. Swift Current was then their home until 2010 when they moved to Medicine Hat, AB. Dad’s farming career started as a teenager helping his dad and older brothers. His love of farming never left him even after moving off the farm. He loved to drive around the country checking crops especially on land he previously farmed himself. Dad enjoyed watching his children grow up then the grandchildren and then great- grandchildren. Dad was a hockey fan and enjoyed watching Cadillac senior hockey games and cheered for the Canadian NHL teams on TV. Dad curled every winter in his younger years and watched curling bonspiels through the winter months on TV. Dad also loved a good game of Cribbage! Dad really looked forward to having coffee with his friends and missed this activity the most when the pandemic cutoff social gathering. We always knew where we could find him if he was not a home. The coffee locations provided a newspaper so he could keep up with current events locally, nationally, and globally. Dad was always there to help his family be it harvesting, building a house, providing the always important, fatherly advice, or simply helping mom with a family supper by peeling potatoes. Dad is remembered for his amazing smile, kindness, and concern for others. A devoted husband Roger always took care of his wife Shirley, even when his own health was failing him, he never felt right about having to place Shirley in the care of others. Roger is survived by his loving wife Shirley, of 65 years, their children Yolande Boyko (Doug), Norman Cote (Brenda), Roland Cote (Connie), Vivian Wolfater (Raymond), John Cote (Cheryl), Albert Cote (Betty), 19 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, in-laws, many nieces, nephews and great friends. Roger is predeceased by his parents Hercule and Corona, his father-in-law Remy and mother-in-law Dora, brothers Anton, Rosaire, Oscar, Marcel, sisters Louise and Lina and daughter Theresa and grandson Jason. The family would like to thank all the wonderful people at the Calgary Foothills Hospital and Medicine Hat Regional Hospital who cared for Dad. Donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation in memory of Roger. A funeral mass was held on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. Due to the restrictions of Covid, the service will be for immediate family only. The interment was held at Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current, SK.
