1943 ~ RONALD SCHORR ~ 2020
Posted: December 29th, 2020Ronald (Ron) Schorr of Medicine Hat, Alberta passed away peacefully at the Good Samaritan on December 22, 2020, at the age of 77 with his beloved wife and grand-daughter at this side. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Donna and daughters Cammie (Brian) Kannekens of Medicine Hat, and Juli (Desmond) Jordan of Calgary; grandchildren Quinn, Kelsi, Kia Kannekens and Maiya, Desirae, and Sacha Jordan; sister Val (Dave) Moir of Cayley, Alberta; sister-in-law Florence Schorr of Medicine Hat; and dear friends, Werner and Debra Redel, from Edmonton. Ron is predeceased by his parents, John and Rosie Schorr, and brother Vernon Schorr. Ron was born March 15, 1943 in Medicine Hat and lived his entire life on the Schorr family farm on the Eagle Butte Road in the Woolchester area. He attended Antelope Cut Country School (where he was the janitor at age 12) and Medicine Hat High School. He met his wife, Donna, while they both were attending Hillcrest Christian College; they were married in 1967. His faith was important to him and he attended Little Plume Church his entire life. Ron was a passionate and progressive farmer having started as a youngster doing barnyard chores and helping work the land with a Fordson tractor and a 6-foot cultivator. He was an innovative risk-taker, often experimenting with new machinery and crops; he was one of the first in the area to plant canola and later served 6 years on the Alberta Canola Commission. Ron was naturally competitive and in his athletic younger years he loved to curl and play softball and slo-pitch. He was always ready for a game of Rook or crokinole, and enjoyed fishing, even stocking the farmyard dugout with trout. The grandchildren will remember the many quad rides while Grandpa checked the crops. Those wishing to pay their respects to Ron and his family may do so on Sunday, December 27th, 2020 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at Saamis Memorial Funeral Chapel, 1 Dunmore Road SE, Medicine Hat, AB T1A 1Z5.
