He is survived by his wife, Priscilla, his sons and daughters-in-law, grandchildren, step-grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several step-great-grandchildren. Al was born on November 2, 1939 to Stephen and Mary Gyorkos, the 10th of 11 children. He received his education at St. Louis School from grades one through eight and then attended St. Teresa’s Academy for grades nine through twelve. Al met Priscilla when attending St. Teresa’s College in grade 9. They married on May 4, 1957 and added two sons to their family – Randall and Rod. Al worked for several companies throughout his career including Northwest Nitro Fertilizer Plant, Merland Exploration and Catalyst Recovery. The “Gyorkos family choir” was also always in full force at all family gatherings, singing songs from their Slovenian heritage that they were all so proud of. There were always many beautiful harmonies and rarely a dry eye. Al and Priscilla were very actively involved in the Park Meadows community where they resided for twelve years. They will always be remembered for their many years as the official ‘welcoming committee’. He had a lifetime passion for classic and antique cars and for many years belonged to the Medicine Hat Vintage Vehicles Club. He loved to go for rides in his 1963 Impala convertible. Al was also an Honourary Life member of the Knights of Columbus. He was always very proud of his entire family and was a devoted family man always striving to do everything he could do for his family. Many thanks to the staff at the Cardiac and IC units at the Foothills Hospital.
