September 15, 1948 – September 11, 2022

Just shy of his 74th birthday, Leo Jean Joseph Brassard passed away in the early hours of Sunday, September 11th, 2022. He enjoyed late night TV watching, and this time was no different.

Leo was born to Jean-Charles Brassard and Rita Caissie on September 15, 1948 in Kénogami, Quebec. After a few years in the Navy, he moved West, met Carmelle St Vincent, and married in 1974. They had two daughters, Stella and Nicole.

Leo was the Dad and Uncle that would play with the kids, and buy them treats! He enjoyed having the latest little gizmos and gadgets, always a child at heart! There aren’t many photos of Leo as he was always the one hiding from the camera, or busy taking video of everything! In his last years, Leo lived in Strathmore, Alberta, close to his caring daughters and grandchildren.

With a natural gift of gab, Leo would talk to anybody. He always had a smile on his face and cheerful banter. Leo loved playing cards, especially crib, you would have to be on alert for his sneaky cheating ways!

Leo was an excellent businessman. He enjoyed arriving in a new community and figuring out what niche he could fulfil, and then sell. Some of his business ventures included Hat News and Tobacco, a laundromat, an arcade, Radio Shack, and Forever Picture. He was mayor in hamlet Hays, Alberta, alongside running the local restaurant / grocery store.

Leo loved to drive, anything and everything. He even got to fly a plane once! His working days included long hauling, bus driver, and even in his younger years, a train brakeman.

Leo will be missed by daughters Stella (Andre Proust) and Nicole (Ryan Stoneman), ex-wife Carmelle St Vincent, grandchildren Leon, Rory, Cody, Valérie, Madeline, and Arthur, siblings Aurore, Claude (Huguette Caron), Carmen, Gérard (Lyse Bouchard), Mireille (Jeannine Hébert), Nancy (Gilles Gauvin), nieces, nephews, cousins and several coffee buddies. Leo was predeceased by his parents and his brother Benoit.

As requested, there will be no service. Please have a Timmies coffee in his memory.

In lieu of sending flowers, please consider a donation to the Canadian Diabetes Association, www.diabetes.ca.

Alternatively, in lieu of a donation, Leo would encourage you to try your luck with a lotto ticket. He always said he’d have to win a million to break even. Good luck!
