Antonio Tenaglia passed away peacefully at South Country Village on Monday, January 2, 2023, after a brief 4 day stay at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. He leaves to cherish his memory 5 children and 6 grandchildren: son, Marco of Medicine Hat; son, Michele (Angela) and their children Antonio and Martina of Strathmore; daughter, Lilliana (Reinhard) Hummel and her children, Matt and Nicole Swanson of Chestermere; son, Fabio and his daughter, Kierrah; son, Leo of Errington, B.C. and his son, Nicholas of Medicine Hat as well as the mother of Antonio’s children, Diane Mazur of Medicine Hat. Antonio was born in Ortona, P. Chieti, Italy on January 21, 1935 to Michele Tenaglia and Berta di Gabriele as a twin to Franco who later died in infancy. He had three other brothers, Franco, Rafael and Aldo; three sisters, Anna Marie, Deolisa and Lilliana who died at the age of 5. Tony immigrated to Canada in 1957 to work for the CPR in Saskatchewan and later a brick yard there. He moved to Medicine Hat in 1959 to work at the Brick and Tile, then later at Maple Leaf Mills for over 14 years. In April of 1964, Tony, Diane and Marco moved to Vasto Marina, Italy where he worked with his father at a brick yard. Michele, Lilliana and Fabio were born in Italy, returning to Canada in 1968 where Leo was born in 1969. Antonio enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and playing horse shoes. Many friends were made when he worked as a Steward at the Cypress Club, catering to members where he knew how they liked their t-bone steak cooked and what their favorite beverage was. He also enjoyed his time working with the Southview Mall IGA. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so starting one hour prior to the celebration of Tony’s life which will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. with Father Francis Tran officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery with fellowship thereafter in the Cook Southland Reception Facility. Tony’s service will be live streamed.
