It is with profound sadness that the family of Jacelyn ‘Jackie’ Lane says goodbye. She passed away peacefully on Friday, February 10, 2023, with her family by her side, at the age of 92 years and 4 months. Left to cherish Jackie’s memory are her son, Garry (Judy) Lane of Medicine Hat; daughter, Marilyn (Maurice) Hunter of Redcliff; son, Ronald Lane of Redcliff; son-in-law, Donald Hoffmeyer of Fort St. John, BC and sister, Linnea Black of Kindersley, SK.; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Sharon Hoffmeyer (2022); husband, Russell Lane (2015); brother, Gerald Hierlmeier (2003); mother, Vivian Hierlmeier (1997) and father, Albert (Babe) Hierlmeier (1962). Jackie was born in Eston, Saskatchewan on October 10, 1930 to parents, Albert (Babe) and Vivian Hierlmeier. She was the middle child, along with her older sister, Linnea and younger brother, Gerald. Jackie grew up in Eston, receiving her education there. At age 12, she and her mother were badly burned in a fire while dry cleaning some ties in the house. Jackie’s cotton dress caught fire burning her leg. Dr. Johnson did not expect her to survive the first night but his expertise saved her life. Russell and Jackie were married in Calgary in 1949, and then moved onto the Lane family farm in the Amdewanda district where they continued to be active farmers until 1984. They moved to Eston for 13 years before relocating to Medicine Hat in 1997, where she resided in Chinook Village from 2002 until her passing. Jackie was always an active member in every community where she lived. She was a member of the Amdewanda/Newburg Ladies Aid and the Eston Lioness Club, delivered Meals on Wheels in Eston, volunteered at the Eston Jubilee Lodge, Top Hat Bingo and the Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter. Her favorite pastimes included gardening, playing bingo, playing various card games, volunteering, fishing, watching curling on TV, and visiting with her grandchildren. Jackie and Russell spent many winters as snowbirds going to Vancouver Island, Palm Desert, California and finally settling in Mesa Regal RV Park in Mesa, Arizona. One of her favorite trips was to Norman Wells and Colville Lake, NWT where she touched down above the Arctic Circle. Jackie has requested that no formal service will be held. Interment will take place in the spring of 2023 at Eston, Saskatchewan. The family want to express their deepest gratitude to the doctors and all the staff for the wonderful care they provided to Jackie at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital and St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice.
