Posted: April 6th, 2023 GAUB, JAMES “JIM” LAWRENCE March 8, 1942 April 3, 2023 Jim Gaub of High River, Alberta, passed away at the Foothills Country Hospice in Okotoks on April 3, 2023, at the age of 81 years.
Jim was born in Medicine Hat, and as a young man, he worked on heavy equipment in Elkwater. In 1964, he met and married his soul mate, a young British woman. Jim is survived by his wife and loving companion, Paula; son James Gaub (Pat); daughter Terri Holowath (Bart); granddaughter Tyla Gaub; and grandsons Remington Holowath and Colt Holowath. Jim was predeceased by his brother Randy and parents Edith and Gottlieb Gaub.
In 1970, Jim took a job with the Agriculture Canada Research Station at Onefour, Alberta, where he worked for 30 years as a mechanic and ranch maintenance worker. Jim and Paula enjoyed the Onefour and Manyberries area and supported many dine-and-dances, curling, and community events. In his spare time, Jim enjoyed carpentry, building furniture for family and friends, fixing up old vehicles, and camping.
In 2001, Jim and Paula retired to High River and loved their new community just as much as they had Onefour. Dancing continued at the High River Legion, and they enjoyed activities such as golf, bowling, and evening cards with friends. Jim always stayed busy, and his maintenance and mechanic skills continued with many projects on Bart & Terri’s farm near Cayley.
The family extends their warmest thanks and gratitude to the staff and volunteers at the Foothills Country Hospice. Memorial Donations may be made to the Foothills Country Hospice – www.countryhospice.org, Box 274, Okotoks AB T1S 1A5.
