Carole Ane Anderson was born in Regina, SK on October 30, 1940 to parents Aksel and Hazel Nielson. She was the youngest of three children, with her elder sister Ruth and brother Morton. Tragically, her father perished in a house fire when she was six months old. The man who came to raise her with her mother in Keystown, SK was Bill Fletcher, whom her mother married when Carole was 7 years old. Carole’s mother remarried for the third and final time, to Jack Foster, in the late 70’s after being widowed again.
Carole went to Wayside School in Keystown, SK and then went on to finish her education at Qu’Appelle Diocesan School for girls in Regina. Only a few blocks down the street, her husband to be, Fred Anderson was going to school at Balfour Tech. They married June 13, 1959 and lived in Regina, where Carole worked at Marshall Wells for several years, before they moved to Edmonton together.In 1968 Carole and Fred joined Fred’s parents on the family farm outside Maple Creek, SK where Carole lived for the next 55 years. Glen was born in 1974 and completed their family of three.Carole was a pioneer for women in many ways. Not only was she a mom and wife in the 70’s, she also worked full time in the fields alongside her husband running the equipment. She also worked over the years at the jewelry store in Maple Creek, the bowling alley and the Home Hardware. Over the years Carole was well known for her warm and genuine smile. Many will remember her endeavours and pastimes by thinking of a pitchfork, gardening gloves, a bowling ball, casino bus trips, a rubber stamp, a pair of fancy crafting scissors, a needle and thread, a bingo dobber, a love of puzzles, or watching a Blue Jays game.We said goodbye on June 16 at 5:55pm to Carole, whose face lit up until literally the very end, when she looked at pictures of friends and family. She hated being late for supper, so it seemed appropriate that she was on time to join her late husband, parents and sister for the heavenly party waiting for her that night at 6pm! She specifically asked for no funeral or somber gathering. The world is a better place for having had her with us and now we ask you join us in taking a private moment to think about what she meant to you. Her friends and family were ever so important to her and the gratitude she had for everything in her life was always apparent. Carole is survived by her son Glen, her daughter in law Annie and the two best grandsons in the world, Jeff and Jack. She is also survived by her brother Morton Nielsen, brother in law Roland Bunyon, five nieces and one nephew. Carole was predeceased by her parents, sister Ruth Bunyon, sister in law Smokey Nielsen, and her husband Fred. We thank everyone for all the great times you shared with her in her life as it was clear to us how she treasured them. In lieu of flowers, cards, or donations, we believe Carole would have wanted those closest to her to enjoy a meal with their loved ones and reflect on the love they have for each other… Maybe even having some shrimp alfredo followed up with revels for dessert, as that was her favorite meal!
