DARLENE SCHOCK 1941 – 2023
It is with very heavy hearts we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, sister, auntie and friend, Darlene Schock of Medicine Hat, Alberta, beloved wife of the late George Schock. Darlene passed away on Monday, July 3, 2023, at the age of 81 years. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Patty (Dennis) Klemchuk of Fairview, Alberta, Cheryl Schock (Jay Savage) of Cranbrook, BC and Bonnie Schock of Dunmore, Alberta; grandchildren, Brandon Maser of Toronto, Ontario, Chelsea (Josiah) Smith of Medicine Hat, Curtis (Tanya) White of Mayerthorpe, Alberta and Addison Clark of Dunmore; Curtis and Addison’s father, Clint Clark of Medicine Hat; great grandchildren, Hazel, Lane and Bennett White of Mayerthorpe and Elise Maser of Toronto; sisters, Marlys (Jim) Frank of Medicine Hat and Judy (Pat) Nieman of Edmonton, Alberta; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, John and Florence Schock and Marlene Schock of Medicine Hat; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families, and a community of friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Louise and Frank Nobel; her mother and father-in-law, John and Dorothy Schock; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Irene and Victor Schneidmiller, Bill and Ilene Schock, Carl and Jean Schock, and Donald Schock.

Darlene was raised in Manyberries and later the Thelma area of Cypress Hills, Alberta where she went to school and worked with her parents at the family farm, grocery store, gas station and post office. She met and married George at a young age, and the two of them took to working very hard to create their own family farm and ranch in that same area and raise three daughters, Patty, Cheryl and Bonnie. Despite long days helping George in the fields and working cattle, Darlene still found time every year to grow and harvest a large garden, pick berries, milk cows, and raise chickens, all of which helped her make the most incredible meals and delicious baking that was sought after by many. A bit later in life she shared that cooking talent when she worked at Elkwater’s restaurant, ski hill, and golf course. Darlene took great pride in her homemaking abilities to create and keep a tidy home and pretty it up with her own crafty abilities of sewing, painting, crocheting, and knitting. Along with her many other talents, Darlene was also musical and often played the accordion and sang alongside George who played the guitar and banjo for family and friends. And although some may never admit it, she was also known to win a few spontaneous foot races that happened in the wee hours after brandings.
Darlene will be remembered as a fun, honest, loving, determined, hardworking and independent woman. Her contagious smile, sincerity and friendship will certainly be missed by all who knew and loved her including family, friends, and neighbors.

A celebration of life will be held at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTER on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. This will be live streamed for those who can not attend in person. The family will be having a private interment service at St. Margaret’s Cemetery on a separate day.
