She was predeceased by her parents, Reinhold and Eva Gill. Ruby was also predeceased by sisters and brothers-in-law Francis Gill, Leonard and Gertrude Straub, George Lewandoski, Gladys and Jovan Andjelic, and Harriet Gill. Ruby was also predeceased by Ted’s parents, Djuro and Soka Andjelic, two brothers-in-law, Jovan “John” Andjelic and Mihajl “Mike” Andjelic, and three sisters-in-law Ika Cenic, Mika Petrovich and Draginja Radic. Ruby is also predeceased and survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Ruby was born and raised in the Irvine – Elkwater area. As a youngster, Ruby had many responsibilities to carry out on the family farm. Although mom was the kindest person we knew, she also was tougher than many could imagine from growing up during the great depression and after. There are many stories of the six sisters helping to run the family farm, including Billy the horse, driving the horse teams working in the fields, running the harrows, managing the animals, and so many more. We were everyone’s best friend on Saturday mornings when the smell of the freshly baked cinnamon buns wafted through the front screen door, enough for all who showed up. Mom was an avid gardener and there are many stories of garden raids, sore tummies from too many peas and bum bums (strawberries), and so much more. Ruby was a long time Medicine Hat Tigers fan, a member of the Medicine Hat Holy Trinity Anglican Church, and the Medicine Hat Nurses Alumni. Mom enjoyed a lifetime of hobbies until she could no longer manage them including fishing, sewing, knitting, and puzzles. Each child, grandchild, and great grandchild received quilts, receiving blankets, pillows, aprons, and mittens made from Mom’s hands.
Ruby had two main purposes in her life. One of them was to provide the very best care for her patients in her role as a registered nurse. Mom was respected by patients and staff alike for her hands-on nursing skills and humble leadership qualities as head nurse. Mom and Dad regularly took time and energy to provide loving care for so many family members. Her other main purpose was to create the best life for her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were her pride and joy. Every child and grandchild felt they were grandma’s favourite.

The family would like to thank Dr. Jeffrey Bradvoldt and staff, as well as the staff at Revera Meadowlands and the Carmel Hospice for the very high level of compassionate care provided to Mom.

The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTRE (540 South Railway Street S.E.) on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. with Fr. Spridon officiating.
