LYNDELL BREKKO 1949 ~ 2023
With love and admiration, we celebrate the incredible Lyndell Brekko (nee Kurtz). Her sudden passing at home on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at the age of 74 years, marked the end of her physical life, but her memory continues to inspire and lead us.
Suffering many challenges over the years, battling the countless symptoms of MS and re-occurring cancer, she proved herself a warrior. Lyndell’s strength carried us through and her contagious laughter could make us forget her enormous obstacles. She had a love for life and those around her which kept her travelling, seeking adventure, and enjoying each day as it came. She was an astonishing figure; a bright light, providing warmth and happiness to all those around her. She had a fierce joy and a wicked sense of humor.
Lyndell is survived by her husband, Terry Brekko; her children, Tara Branter, Tyler Brekko and Tobi (Sebastian) Magner, and her pride and joy, her grandchildren, Sophie, Ewan and Isla. She also leaves behind her brother, Barry Kurtz; her sister, Michelle (Barry) Bitz, as well as numerous extended family members and her dear, cherished friends. She valued everyone and will be sadly missed by so many.
To celebrate Lyndell’s life, you are invited to the Grandstand Room at the Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede Grounds on Friday, September 15, 2023 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. A program will begin at 5:00 p.m. Food and beverages will be provided. Lyndell was never one for formalities or a dress code, please dress as it pleases you – we know she would be in her jeans.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice in her honor. To keep in touch with Terry and his family, share memories or photos, please email us at lyndell@brekko.com.
Hold your loved ones close today while you share a story of this kind, smart, unforgettable woman.

‘Those we love don’t go away,
They walk beside us every day,
Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear.’
Tobi-I’m so sorry to hear about your mom. I remember her as a kind, welcoming, and down-to-earth woman when I had dinner at your home when we were kids. Hugs and love to you and your family in this time.
