Posted: September 30th, 2023 1930 ~ JOHN “JACK” BOLTON ~ 2023
John Andrew “Jack” Bolton of Medicine Hat passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Thursday, September 21st, 2023 at the age of 93 years. Jack leaves to cherish his memory his children, Shelley (Ron) Balaban, Dale (Deb) Bolton, and Darrell Bolton; grandchildren, Kyle (Randi), Colby, Chris (Tasha), Cody (Chantel), Daniel, Lindsey, Mallory (Matheo), Cole; great-grandchildren, Gracie May, Hanna, Karter, Della; and Everett, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 46 years, Muriel Bolton (nee Griffin); parents, Walter and Octa May Bolton; siblings, Everett, Murray, Thelma, and Harvey; “Baby” Bolton, and grandson, Chad. John was born and raised in Summerland, BC. As a young man he would spend his spring and fall farming in Saskatchewan alongside his brother, Everett and then he would pick fruit in the summer months for extra pocket money. In 1960, he married his sweetheart, Muriel. They moved to Simmie, SK where they settled and raised their family. Jack started with a grain operation and over the years he was able to expand his agricultural venture into both grain and cattle. He loved both the farming aspect and his cattle. He was multi-talented gentleman and there was little that he couldn’t fix or fashion into something that worked as well as or better than it had before. Jack had his own, unique brand of humour and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and vacationing in B.C. Jack and Muriel built a new home in Medicine Hat to be closer to their daughter when they retired. Jack continued to stay busy by renovating and upgrading a couple more homes in his retirement. After Muriel’s passing, Jack moved into assisted living but found that it just wasn’t for him, so he continued to live independently until his failing health allowed him no other option and long-term care was necessary. Jack will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him. He was his family’s rock. Our sincerest gratitude to all those who provided care at Good Samaritan’s. A private family graveside service will take place at Saamis Prairie View Cemetery. Memorial gifts in Jack’s memory may be made to the Alberta Heart & Stroke Foundation, PO Box 460 STN K, Toronto, ON M4P 9Z9 or the Canadian Cancer Society, 325 Manning Road NE, Calgary, AB T2E 2P5.
