YVETTE KARI-LYNN PETERS December 31, 1972 – Medicine Hat, Alberta November 23, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta
Yvette Peters (nee Sorrell) passed away peacefully surrounded by those who loved her, on Thursday, November 23, 2023, at 1:10 p.m. For almost 51 years, Yvette was beautiful, quirky, mischievous, energetic, funny, and always loyal. At every stop along her journey, she built lifelong friendships with others like her, spreading her generosity and infectious zest for life to everyone around her.

Yvette was born December 31, 1972, in Medicine Hat, Alberta, to Wayne and Mary Sorrell. She grew up in ‘The Hat’ with three siblings. After graduating from McCoy High School, she began studies in journalism at Medicine Hat College. Once there, she discovered a love of theatre, and soon switched to pursuing a degree in fine arts, which she completed at the University of Calgary. Throughout her life, she continued to pursue her passion for the arts in one way or another. In Vancouver and London, she participated in the theatre and film communities, securing work and furthering her education. Yvette married Cameron in 2002. They started their family in 2007 with the addition of Ava, followed by Olivia in 2009 and Isla in 2012. Yvette had a way of making everyone around her feel special and valued. She especially loved being called mom, auntie, sister, and friend.

As a family, our hearts are broken. We walked alongside Yvette through her courageous journey and now cling to the comfort of memories we created together. We are grateful that she has finally found relief from the pain and is at peace. The family would like to thank Dr. Alimohamed and Dr. Phan for Yvette’s care over the last six years. They are grateful for the care Yvette received from the staff of units 46 and 47 of the Foothills Hospital and for the kindness of the staff at the Rosedale Hospice.

If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to www.metavivor.org. Thirty percent of breast cancer patients go on to develop metastatic disease, yet only three percent of all research funding is devoted to these advanced cancers.
