Posted: December 9th, 2023 OWEN BRADLEY MELLEN November 17th, 1958 November 30th, 2023 Owen “Brad” Mellen passed away on November 30th, 2023, at the age of 65 years. He leaves to cherish his memory his son, Brad (Breanne) Mellen; daughter, Courtney (Chris) Miller; grandchildren, Ethan, Reid and Laila Miller; brothers, Andy Mellen and Mike Mellen; sister, Kathi (Terry) Ryshak; niece, Katie Ryshak; nephew, Shane Ryshak; former spouse, Sheila. Brad was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Jean Mellen.
Brad was born in Portage la Prairie, MB but spent much of his youth in Florida and Mexico before the family moved back to Canada when he was 14. He often spoke fondly of his time in Florida and it was there that he developed a love for baseball that would carry throughout his life. A hardcore Yankees fan, it was rare to have a conversation with Brad that didn’t include team stats, player updates or league news.
Brad lived a life of variety and worked in many different roles from school bus driver to teaching assistant to psychiatric nursing assistant. After retiring in 2018, Brad moved from Portage la Prairie, MB to Medicine Hat, AB where he spent his time making new friends, studying his faith as a Jehovah’s Witness, and traveling in his beloved RV. His joys in life were his children and grandchildren who he dearly loved. Brad had his problems but was a good person in spite of them. He was friendly and kind, believing that everyone was worthy of acceptance and compassion. He gave of himself freely to anyone who was in need and will be sorely missed by all who loved him.
A private family service will be held in Summer 2023. Condolences may be made at www.gracememorial.com. Arrangements are made by
