John William Holton of Medicine Hat, passed away on Monday, January 1, 2024, at the age of 99 years, beloved husband of the late Josephine Holton. John was born on August 20, 1924, in Broadstairs, Kent, England. John was under eighteen lying about his age so that he could join the British Airforce. He was first stationed in Medicine Hat with the Airforce ground crew, and it was during this time that he met Lila. On December 28, 1944, they were married. Shortly after the marriage, he was transferred back to England and eventually stationed in India. After spending eighteen months in India finishing off his tour, he returned Medicine Hat where Lila and John would begin their family and raise their children Linda and John. Lila passed away and later John met Josephine DeWald; they were married on November 23, 1968. Josephine had two children Brent and Lynn. The children were adopted, and the family unit was complete. John leaves to cherish his memory their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren: daughter, Linda (Rick) Massini – Lori and Riaz Meghji (Nico); Ryan and Kaylyn; son, Brent Holton and Kimberly Bileski – Megen and Justin Koch (Eve, Sage), Jaylene and Stacey Gress; son, John and Cheryl Holton – Brad and Peggy Holton, Cory and Randi Holton (Kyden, Rylan), Troy Holton; daughter, Lynn Holton and Albert Roy- Rene Arnold-Holton, Neil Holton, Jason and Kara Roy (Sophie, Sawyer), Steven and Amanda Roy (Nicholas, Jasper). John worked as a mechanic and then as a pipefitter at the Goodyear tire plant and the Burstall plant for many years. In retirement, John loved to travel and with Josephine by his side, they returned for visits to his family in England. Their travels also included Europe, Mexico, and Hawaii. John enjoyed travelling in the trailer/motorhome heading south to Nevada and the Arizona areas. Later in life, driving to Needles, California and spending the winters away was always something he looked forward to. John enjoyed watching sports and Coronation Street, listening to music and playing card games. We would like to thank Meadow Ridge nursing and staff for the wonderful care and kindness shown to our dad.
