PHYLLIS GARRETT
Posted: March 28th, 2024 PHYLLIS GARRETT Phyllis Gwen Garrett died peacefully in her sleep on March 26, 2024, in Strathmore, Alberta at ,the age of 88. She is survived by her loving children Rick Garrett of Burely, Idaho, Pam Sheane of Okotoks, Mike (Heather) Garrett of Calgary, Linda (Bob) Grove of Strathmore, and Nancy (Howard) Smith of Strathmore. She is also missed by numerous Grandchildren, Great-Grandchildren and one Great-Great-Grandchild. She is predeceased by her husband John Garrett; parents Livona and Patrick King; her 4 sisters, Nova, Nona, Nina, and Patricia; and daughter-in-law Faith Garrett. Phyllis was born in Lamar, Colorado, on April 14,1935. She moved to Vale, Oregon at the age of six where she met and married her husband John Garrett on June 10,1952. Phyllis was involved in baton twirling, gymnastics, and was a drum majorette in high school and later taught her children and numerous other girls. Phyllis was also involved in teaching sewing in 4H as she was an excellent seamstress and quilter.
Phyllis and John owned a cattle ranch in eastern Oregon where they lived and raised their family until August 1969 when the lure of Canada became too great. The family lived in Alberta, B.C., and Saskatchewan. Upon retirement they moved to Redcliff, Alberta until John’s death in 2007. Phyllis moved to Strathmore to be closer to her family in 2009.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at Wheatland Funeral Home (202 Lakeside Blvd, Strathmore) at 11:00 a.m. The family invites you to the interment later the same day at Saamis Prairie View Cemetery (5160 Gershaw Dr SW, Medicine Hat, AB).
The family would like to thank Kindred Companions and the staff members at Sagewood (Eagle Lake and Namaka Lake) for the wonderful care of Phyllis .
