SHEILA HELEN CHURCH August 26th, 1954 April 11th, 2024
It is with pure sadness and heartbreak we announce the sudden passing of Sheila Church on Thursday April 11, 2024. Sheila was an incredibly generous, creative, loyal and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and great friend to many.
Sheila is survived by her sons, Cam (Chrystal) Church, Cody (Kendra) Church; grandchildren, Hayes, Cooper, Chesney, Gracy, Stella and Maeve; mother, Margret Spicer; siblings, Holly (Jim) Morrison, Brian Spicer, Bev (Susan) Spicer, Kevin (Rose) Spicer, Brad Spicer; sister-in-law, Norma Church; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Sheila was predeceased by her husband, Rob Church; father, Barry Spicer; brother, Gary Spicer; brother-in-law, Lynn Church; father and mother-in-law, Bud and Mona Church.
Sheila was born August 26, 1954, in Berwick, Nova Scotia and raised on the family apple orchard where she grew up playing and working with her siblings, raising pet foxes, crows, raccoons and whatever else the Spicer kids could get their hands on. Creating a fearless nature and at the young age of 18, Sheila boarded a train and headed west “Looking for a Cowboy” (which is what she always told us). Not long after arriving in Medicine Hat, she found one……. Sheila married Rob Church in April of 1976 and the rest is history. Rob and Sheila resided briefly in Lethbridge where they met many lifelong friends. Returning back to the Hat residing in Ross Glen and out to the farm in 1988. Building a beautiful house and truly enjoying the country living with their horses and hosting the famous September long weekend parties, where a “Great Time Was Had By All”.
Sheila worked for the Hudson Bay Company, Safeway, Victim Assistance with Medicine Hat Police Service (earning a Civic Recognition Award in 1993), CORE and Home Care, retiring in 2019. Sheila enjoyed many activities, such as quilting, curling, skiing, gardening, paddle boating and helping out with the kids activities. Sheila attended and volunteered at countless hockey and school events both as mother and grandmother. She stayed in touch with her home care group taking part in monthly potlucks. Sheila baked and decorated hundreds of cakes throughout the years, for all kinds of events. Sheila was dedicated to her long time Stich N Bitch crew and “All In” for Christmas and holiday events. Sheila loved baking, decorating, cooking for whoever showed up at her door, which was always open with a bottle of wine on standby. Mom made it clear that everyone was welcome, but grandkids are preferred. Sheila will be greatly missed by her family, extended family, many people and lives she had touched over the years.
“Death leaves a heartache no one can heal. Love leaves a memory no one can steal.” A Celebration of life and a casual come and go will be held at the Seven Persons Community Hall, Monday, May 20th, 2024, from 1pm to 4pm. Condolences may be made at www.gracememorial.com. Arrangements are made by
