It is with a heavy heart, Karen (nee Markell), loving wife of Leo George Schile, announces the passing of Leo after a short battle with cancer on Thursday, May 30th, 2024, at St. Joseph’s Home-Carmel Hospice. Leo is survived by his loving wife, Karen; daughter, Brandi Schile; daughter-in-law, Holly Knisley; grandchildren, Wyatt and Noelle Starlight-Cole; brothers, Don (Bonnie) Schile and Jack (Darlene) Schile; sisters, Dolores (John) Goguen and Leona (Leonard) Plouffe; Karen’s mother, Joan Markell; Karen’s sisters, Mary Anne (Bob) Kawaza and Gayle Brazier; brother-in-law, Brad Brown; his fur babies, Charlie, Yogi, Sid and Georgie; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by stepson, Tory Cole; dad and mom, Louie and Barbara Schile; brother, Clarence (Becky) Schile; father-in-law, Russell Markell; sister-in-law, Linda Brown; brother-in-law, Ron Brazier.
Leo was born in Medicine Hat on August 10,1957 and raised in the Maleb area where he attended Conquerville School. He helped his dad on the farm until they moved to Medicine Hat. He married Karen Markell on June 5,1992 and were happily married for 32 years. He worked at Ogilvie Flour Mills for 38 years. After retirement he enjoyed 10 years of what he loved-hunting, fishing, gardening, and was an awesome cook. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at St Joseph’s for the wonderful care Leo received there.
Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, June 6, 2024, at 1:30pm at the WYNDHAM Garden Conference Centre (954 7th St. SW, Medicine Hat).
