MARLENE CHRISTINA SAUER
Following a 15 year long battle with Alzheimers, Marlene Christina Sauer passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at the age of 71 years, beloved wife of Richard Sauer of Maleb, Alberta. She also leaves to cherish her memory one brother Glenn (Jan) Christman of Pincher Creek; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Emma Steinkey, Stan (Pat) Sauer, Albert (Susan) Sauer and Betty Parsons as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Katie and Herbert Christman, Richard’s parents Anna and Louie Sauer; her brothers -in-law, George Sauer, Frank (Anne) Sauer, Max Steinkey, Brian Parsons and sister-in-law Shirley Sauer. Marlene was born to Katie and Herbert Christman on March 29, 1953, in Medicine Hat and was raised on a farm at Schuler with her brother Glenn. The first vehicle she learned to drive was a Minneapolis U tractor which set the tone for her independent life. Upon finishing high school, Marlene pursued a career in hair dressing. She started working at Carol’s Beauty Salon and shortly after became the owner. On November 7, 1981, her life became complete when she married Richard in Medicine Hat. If needed, she would happily hop on a tractor and Richard would happily pick up a broom. They set up a hairdressing shop on the farm in 1981 so Marlene could continue her standard $5.00 hair cut which sometimes included a $10.00 meal, a “deal” she continued until she retired. She was also a great dancer, gardener and crafter as well as a shopper although she just “liked to look”. She loved to cook and entertain family and neighbours at her home. She was an excellent cook, her butterhorns were her signature treat, that she would make and Richard would deliver. Adventure through travel took them to many wonderful places like Hawaii, Branson and Germany and included several Danny O’Donnell concerts and a trip to the Loretta Lynn Dude Ranch. She loved animals, children and Skor Blizzards. She always felt blessed to share life’s special times with her soul mate.
