Theo Verhoeven of Bow Island, passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at the age of 87 years, beloved husband of the late Shirley Verhoeven. He leaves to cherish his memory three children, Sandra Huizing, Troy Verhoeven (Tara Mason) and Michelle Verhoeven (Brian Stehr); seven grandchildren, Amanda (Cody) Liske, Tanner Ulrich, Alies Huizing, Tyeson Verhoeven, Taylor Verhoeven, Michael Hoehn an Brody Hoehn; one brother Bill Verhoeven; four sisters, Annie, Maria, Nolly and Diane as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Shirley on January 13, 1993; his parents Maria and Reiner Verhoeven; two sons-in-law Duane Ulrich and Douwe Huizing; one brother Eddie and two sisters Nellie and Rita. Theo was born on April 17, 1937, in Oijen, Noord Brabant, Holland immigrating to Canada in 1958. He settled with extended family in the Iron Springs area until moving to Bow Island in 1964, settling with his parents and siblings on the family farm. On January 11, 1969, he married Shirley Anne Scherer in Medicine Hat and they continued to farm with his family. In 1978, he bought the farm from his father and eventually began farming with his son Troy; they continued farming together until Theo was no longer able. In his younger years Theo enjoyed bowling, curling, playing cards, going to ‘turkey shoots’ and was known to cut a rug when dancing. He was he a member of the Bow Island Lions Club and Eagles Club in Medicine Hat, he liked morning coffee and discussing worldly issues at various “local” establishments. He liked watching hockey and the evening news and throughout the week going to the cattle auction sale was always on the agenda; and when ‘the boys’ were old enough to take along, he beamed with pride. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTRE on Thursday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. A graveside service will take place at the Bow Island Cemetery on Friday, July 5, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. with Fr.
