ROBERT “BOB” WESTGARTH
Posted: July 13th, 2024 1950 ROBERT “BOB” WESTGARTH – 2024 Our free-spirited, Bob, has left this world to join all the other free spirits in heaven, including his father and son. Robert Frank Westgarth died suddenly on July 5, 2024.
He will be so missed by his sisters, Lynne (Al) and Lori (Chris); his loving daughters, Megan (Barry) and Robyn (Dwayne); his two beloved grandchildren, Preston and Kaia; his wife, Colleen; and his devoted partner, Brenda. In death, Bob has joined his fishing partner and son, Shane; his parents, Kaja and Frank; and his in-laws, Elaine and Jim Howie. Bob was born and raised in Medicine Hat. His love for the written word led him to Calgary to study journalism at SAIT, and ultimately working at the Albertan. Bob always had a great eye for colour so he embarked on another adventure, moving to Devon, AB where he began working on his first trade, painting and decorating. Bob, Colleen and Megan then moved to Medicine Hat where Bob took over his dad’s painting and decorating business. Bob and Colleen’s family also expanded with the addition of Shane and Robyn. At 55, when Bob’s knees protested too loudly, he went back to school to obtain his Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic Technician Certificate through the Apprenticeship Program at CFB Suffield. He retired in 2020 and permanently moved to his happy place in Cypress Hills, Saskatchewan, where he met Brenda.
Bob loved to fish, camp, enjoy nature and the outdoors. He didn’t ask much of life, but he gave so much of his heart and paycheques to so many in need. He was active in Al-Anon and was always eager to help the vulnerable, especially in the Hat’s downtown. Bob grew up with Fifth Avenue Memorial United Church and cherished his other family there. The funeral service will be held for Bob at FIFTH AVENUE MEMORIAL UNITED CHURCH on July 20, 2024, at 11:00 am. He would have appreciated any donations you wish to make to go to Fifth Avenue Memorial United Church, 476-4 St. S.E.
