Shirley Catherine Straub (nee Harty) of Medicine Hat, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, on July 16, 2024, at the age of 62 years. She is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, Stanley, sons Damon (Lilly) and Gary; two grandchildren Hayden and Evelyn whom she adored and who brought her much joy. Also left to mourn her passing are her siblings, Terry (Rollie), George (Barb), Jim (Chris), Cindy, Sandy (James) and Brian. As well, she will be missed by Stan’s sister Sylvia (Gary). Shirley will be held close in the hearts of her many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. She was predeceased by her parents George and Regina Harty, sister Gloria Jesse and brother Gary in infancy. Shirley was born in Bow Island and moved to Medicine Hat, with her family, at a young age and completed her education at McCoy High School. She worked at the Suffield Base, SPCA and most recently for the Catholic School Board until her health declined. We will all miss her infectious smile, giggle, and of course her delicious baking. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the caring staff at St Joesph’s Home, Medicine Hat Home Care and Margery E. Yuill Cancer Centre. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTRE on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at 1:00 pm. with Life Celebrant, David Townsend officiating. So sorry to hear of Shirley’s passing. She was so gentle, kind and quiet. She had a smile for everyone when she came to work at St. Patrick’s. Hoping that your happy memories bring your family comfort during this sad time. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I wish I had more than just these words to let you know how truly sorry I am to hear of your passing. You are at pace now, no pain can hurt you again. I have many good memories of you as a good co-worker and wonderful friend. I will cherish those memories for ever. For your family, my deepest condolences.
