Posted: August 13th, 2024 LAURETTE TÉTRAULT 1932 – 2024
Laurette Angela Tétrault (Roy) passed away peacefully on August 9, 2024, at the age of 91 years in Medicine Hat. She is fondly remembered by family and friends especially her seven children: Guy (Donna), Lise (Linda), Michelle (Garry), Robert (Betty), Alain (Gail), Denis (Marie) and Donald (Brenda), thirteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and her sisters Armance and Gloria (Gerald). Laurette was born on October 19, 1932, on the Roy family farm south of Ferland, Saskatchewan as the fourth of eight children of Azarias and Bertha Roy. She grew up in a francophone household and cherished her Fransaskoise heritage. After graduating high school, Laurette taught in a one room schoolhouse near Wood Mountain, Saskatchewan, an accomplishment that she was very proud of. This love of learning and teaching would motivate her to become involved in her children’s educational journeys. She later met and married the love of her life Yvon Tétrault in Glentworth, Saskatchewan on October 6, 1952. Following their union, the two of them raised their family while pursuing their dreams which would take them through eight different communities in Saskatchewan eventually leading them to retire in Medicine Hat, Alberta.
Those who knew Laurette would describe her as someone who was deeply connected to the Catholic church. She lived her life steeped in faith through daily prayer and was actively involved with Catholic Parish ministry. One of her proudest achievements was being recognized for being both a member and leader within the Catholic Women’s League (CWL) for over the course of 65 years. Laurette had a love for competitive sports. In particular, she took great satisfaction at beating her husband in a round of golf. In addition to being athletic and competitive, Laurette was also a very skilled painter and created many beautiful pieces of art that her family will continue to cherish in her absence. She and Yvon were avid travelers and relished in the ability to meet new people and form lifelong friendships. Some of her favourite destinations included Parksville, Fernie, Mesa, and especially Hawaii.
Above all, Laurette cherished family gatherings and time spent with friends. Her fun-loving spirit and laughter will be deeply missed.
