KEITHA (KAY) MARGARET SHILLINGTON (NEE TINDALL) September 25, 1930 ~ August 28, 2024
Kay Shillington, after a life well-lived, passed away peacefully at Masterpiece Southland Meadows retirement residence. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 48 years, Floyd, as well as her children, John, Patricia, Mick, and Denise (Tracy). Her legacy also includes her cherished grandchildren, Kerry (Darryl), Erin (Kyle), Curtis (Amy), Michael (Kelly), Kathleen (Marko), Kelly (Linda), Adam (Madalyn) along with thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. Kay was predeceased by her brother, Arnold; sister, Beryl and dear daughter-in-law, Lynne.
Born in North Bay, Ontario, Kay was filled with wanderlust at the age of 21, prompting her to hop on a train to Vancouver, BC, where she met her first husband. In 1967, she courageously moved back to North Bay with her four children, before relocating to Calgary in 1973. It was there that she met Floyd, brought together by their shared love of dancing, a passion that made them a joy to watch on the dance floor.
In 1978, Kay and Floyd moved to Medicine Hat where they became longtime members of Fifth Avenue Memorial United Church. Kay was a founding member of the Medicine Hat Business and Professional Women’s Club (BPW) and played a pivotal role in opening the first women’s shelter in Medicine Hat. Kay was an active member of the Rhyme and Reason writers club, and at the age of 79, she proudly earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Medicine Hat College.
Kay’s memory will be forever cherished by her family and friends. She will be deeply missed.
A celebration of Kay’s life will be held at Fifth Avenue Memorial United Church, 476 – 4 Street S.E., Medicine Hat on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend David Pollard officiating. (Condolences may be expressed by visiting www.cooksouthland.com) Honoured to serve the family is
