Mavis Yvonne Stengler of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Bruce Stengler, passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Friday, August 30th, 2024 at the age of 89 years. Mavis leaves to cherish her memory her son, David (Reta) Stengler of Medicine Hat, AB; daughters, Denise Stengler (Oscar Medina) and Dianne (Michael) Andjelic, all of Calgary, AB; four grandchildren, Sheena and Shyla of Medicine Hat, AB and Sebastian and Bryanne of Calgary, AB; great granddaughter, Emma of Medicine Hat, AB; as well as her siblings and numerous nieces and nephews. Mavis was predeceased by her parents, Clarence and Alma Sunde; husband, Bruce in 2022; and several of her siblings. Mavis was born in Assiniboia, SK on May 1, 1935. She attended Grey Nuns nursing school in Regina, SK and accepted a position in Moose Jaw, before moving to Vancouver, BC to continue her nursing career. She married Bruce Stengler in 1957 and they moved to Medicine Hat where they worked together at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital until she retired. During the 1970’s and the 80’s, they we were involved in women’s hockey, taking their daughters and teammates to several tournaments in Western Canada. Mavis enjoyed camping with her family and spending time at the family cabin in Saskatchewan. She enjoyed going to the Tiger’s hockey games, watching hockey, Blue Jays baseball games, and any sports in general. She lived at St. Joseph’s home for the past three and a half years where she met and acquired many new friends and residents whom she considered family. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at Saamis Memorial Funeral Chapel, 1 Dunmore Road SE, Medicine Hat, AB, on Friday, September 6th, 2024 from 12:30 to 1:25 pm. The Funeral Service will follow at Saamis Memorial Funeral Chapel at 1:30 pm with Pastor Shane Hein officiating. If unable to attend, family and friends are welcome to participate via livestream by logging on to www.saamis.com and joining the live webcast on Mavis’s memorial page at the above date and time. A virtual guest book is available on the livestream page for those participating remotely. Interment will follow at Saamis Prairie View Cemetery.
