HIMES-LYGHT Gayle Joy Himes-Lyght of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late John Lyght and Wally Himes, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, September 11th, 2024, at the age of 80 years. Gayle was born on September 25th, 1943 in Thunder Bay, Ontario to Marg and Ed Kusznier and spent her childhood in Thunder Bay. Gayle loved the Lord, her family, baking, sewing, flowers, fishing, and music. As a teenager she even played the accordion. Gayle found joy in cooking, baking and her son-in laws pizza was a family favorite. She also loved to talk on the phone and visit in person with family and friends. Gayle received her Nursing training in Sudbury, Ontario and worked as a nurse until she became pregnant with her first child, Melinda. She also worked as a waitress at the Husky Truck Stop and Robins Donuts to help with finances. Later, Gayle worked as a Red Cross Homemaker and enjoyed working with seniors. Gayle was also in the military with her mom and did Medicals for the Cadets. She raised numerous foster children, even in her busy life. She is predeceased by husbands Wally Himes and John Lyght; parents, Marg and Ed Kusznier and brothers Dave Kusznier (June), and Bill Kusznier. She will be missed dearly by her daughters, Melinda Boon and Donna Luchies (Stewart) and her “chosen daughter” Melissa Luchies; grandchildren, Andrew Luchies (Colleen), Christopher Luchies (Sarah), Kathryn and Taralyn Boon and three beloved great grandchildren, Kale, Aurora, and Genevieve Luchies. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 16th, 2024 at 1:00 PM from The Link Church in Medicine Hat. Pastor Rick Aupperie officiating. Luncheon to follow at River Ridges Estates for close friends and family. Interment to follow in Thunder Bay at a later date. In memory of Gayle, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to Alberta Diabetes Foundation, 8602 112 St NW, Edmonton, AB T6G 2E1.
