RICHARD MICHAEL LEWANS October 20th, 1953 August 11th, 2024
The family of Richard Lewans regretfully announce his passing on August 11th, 2024, at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital.

Rick was born on October 20th, 1953, to Doreen (nee Barth) and Leo Lewans and was raised in Medicine Hat. He left school early and worked numerous jobs before finding his calling as a civilian employee at CFB Suffield, where he worked until his retirement after more that 30 years.

Rick was a member of the Moose Lodge as well as the Elks. He enjoyed donating time selling raffle tickets each year. Rick loved playing cards and had many trophies to prove his skill. For many years, Rick also liked to help his cousin, Jerome at harvest time trucking the grain from the combine. In later years, Rick called bingo at South Country Village which he loved to do. He also had a huge TV, watching every sport from curling to wrestling but especially his beloved Blue Jays. Rick was very appreciative of all the care he received at South Country Village and often spoke of the good staff who looked after him so well.

Rick is survived by his father, Leo Lewans; his aunt, Irma Syrenne; uncles, Al and George Lewans; as well as many cousins. He was predeceased by his mother, Doreen.

The Funeral Mass will take place at Holy Family Parish on September 30th, 2024, at 10:30am with Father Iqbal Kurshid celebrant. Interment will take place after service at Hillside Cemetery, where Rick will be laid to rest with his mother, Doreen.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at South Country Village for the care and friendship Rick received over the years. Also, thank you to the staff of the dialysis unit of Medicine Hat Hospital, as well as the doctors and nurses of 4 West for the compassionate care Rick received during his final days.
