Linda Anne Sonley, cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2024, at the age of 75 years. She left behind a legacy of love and kindness that will continue to touch the hearts of all who knew her. Born on October 20, 1948, in Lindsay, Ontario, Linda was the beloved daughter of Gordon and Irene Henry, and she carried her deep affection for family throughout her life. Linda’s life was defined by her love for those around her and her commitment to building a community through her various roles. She was a devoted member of the Order of Eastern Star, and she traveled the “Star Trail” extensively, fostering connections that lasted a lifetime. Her voice graced the Church Choir, where she sang with passion and faith. Linda served as an Elder and participated in the Women of the Church, offering her wisdom and guidance. In 1972, Linda married the love of her life, Roy Sonley, and together, they embarked on a journey of 52 beautiful years filled with joy, challenges, and endless love. The couple’s deep bond was the foundation of their family. Linda was a woman of many interests, and her adventurous spirit was evident in her hobbies. She enjoyed playing Bridge, a pastime that sharpened her mind and connected her with many friends. Traveling with their camper, she explored countless places, building cherished memories with Roy. Linda’s love for nature was evident in her passion for kayaking, a hobby that took her to various lakes throughout North America. Kindhearted relationships and a generous spirit marked her life, always emphasized by her warm hospitality when visiting friends and family. Linda’s profound love for her family was evident in everything she did; she considered them her most outstanding achievement. Linda is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Roy; her mother, Irene Henry of Oshawa, ON; her children, Philip (Cheryl) Sonley of Medicine Hat, AB, and Cheryl Sonley of Calgary, AB; grandchildren, Logan (Claire) Sonley and Michael Sonley, Brody (Marisha) Taylor and Miranda Taylor; great-grandchildren, Alayna and Zayden Taylor of Medicine Hat; her sister, Karen Swindells of Oshawa, ON, and her sisters-in-law, Karen (Stan) Durward of Sunderland, and Faye (Inglis) Phinney of Owen Sound, ON; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Gordon Henry, and her sister, Donna Henry, who she now joins in eternal peace. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Medicine Hat Hospital 5 East/West for their compassionate care and St. Joseph’s Hospice for their loving attention in Linda’s final days. A celebration of Linda’s life will be held at St. John’s Presbyterian Church, 504 2 Street SE, Medicine Hat, AB on Wednesday, October 9th, 2024 at 11:00 am with Rev. Dr. Nancy Cocks and Rev. Dr. Bob Cruikshank officiating. A luncheon served by the WOC will follow the service before the interment at Saamis Prairie View Cemetery takes place.
