MARILYN BURK

MARILYN BURK 1937 ~ 2025 Marilyn Louise (Sewall) Burk of Medicine Hat reached the end of the trail on Monday, January 20, 2025, at the age of 87 years. Marilyn was born in Calgary, AB., on November 24, 1937, the eldest of five children to Jock and Louise Sewall. She shared her fondest memories as growing up on ranches in the Jenner, Tilley, and Brooks areas. Marilyn loved playing the piano which she learned at St. Theresa Academy in Medicine Hat. She boarded at the “Convent” when there weren’t local schools available near the ranch. Marilyn graduated from high school in Brooks, AB., before going into nurses training in Medicine Hat. She married Everett Burk in 1958, and together they raised their loving family primarily in the Medicine Hat area. Marilyn cared deeply for her family and was a friend to everyone she met. She was a gifted and passionate artist, specializing in Western bronze sculpture with some of her work featured in the Cowboy Hall of Fame in Cochrane, Alberta. She loved horses and the Western way of life. Marilyn is survived by her husband, Everett; children, Kelly (Don) Kuz, Bill (Caron) Burk and Tom (Willow) Burk; grandchildren, Scott (Dawn) Kuz, Erin (Lane) Flaten, Emily (Katie) DeLucia-Burk and Ethan Burk as well as great-grandchildren, Cash, Ryatt, Landen, Rowen and Brielle. She is also survived by her siblings, Donna (Gailen) Neville, Susan (late Tony) Minor, Cliff (late Joyce) Sewall as well as Ian (Betty) Sewall. Marilyn was predeceased by her parents as well as two grandsons, Grant and Jon. A private celebration honouring Marilyn’s life has taken place.     I wanted to pass my condolences to Marilyn’s family. I cared for her for many years through Home Care and enjoyed every second of getting to know her. She had an amazing talent with her sculptures and such a kind heart. I am truly sorry to hear of her passing and know she will be greatly missed. Thinking of all of you, especially Everett.
