1947 ~ 2025
Walter Reinhart Bergstreser, of Medicine Hat, beloved husband of Vivian, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on February 2, 2025, at the age of 77 years, following a brief battle with cancer.
Wally was born on October 22, 1947, in Empress, Alberta, the youngest son of Walter and Frieda of Acadia Valley, and grew up on the family farm. After university, Wally pursued teaching, farming, travelling, carpentry and ministry. He married Vivian in 1980, becoming a father to Debbie. The new family welcomed Jennifer in 1982 and Shannon in 1988. Wally had the heart of an educator, teaching in Rosemary, Plenty, Mayfield Colony, Manyberries, and Margaret Wooding. Mr. Berg loved every one of his students. Retirement was spent woodworking, gardening, volunteering, reading, camping, and doting on his beloved grandchildren.
Dad was a kind and gentle man, and a steadfast friend. His happiest times were spent in his garden and creating in his workshop. He was totally devoted to his wife of 45 years and his loving family. He will be deeply missed.
Wally is survived by his wife, Vivian; children Debbie (Steve) Foley, Jennifer (Jordon) Duncan, and Shannon Bergstreser; grandchildren Dustin Enslen, Amanda Enslen (Rhys Morgan), Paige Kirkpatrick and Summer Kirkpatrick; brother Hugo Bergstreser and brother-in-law Gary Sample (Margaret), as well as many nieces, nephews, and their families. He was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Frieda Bergstreser, sister and brother-in-law Vivian and Nick Stark, and parents-in-law Cyril and Gene Sample. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTRE on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. with Marg McCulley officiating.
