Posted: February 8th, 2025 EVACK, JACQUELINE M. 1939 – 2024
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, Jacqueline Evack (nee Pierson), in Calgary, AB, on Sunday, September 29, 2024.
Jackie was born in Taber, AB, in 1939, the eldest daughter of Jack and Margaret. In 1953, the family relocated to Medicine Hat and Jackie transferred to Medicine Hat High School, where she would meet her future husband Steve Evack, and later graduate high school (Class of ’57).
Jackie began her career at TD Bank shortly after graduation and remained there for over 20 years through moves to Edmonton and Calgary. She later joined the Alberta Treasury Branches, working there until her retirement in 1997. Jackie found great fulfillment in her work, and her dedication and professionalism led her to become TD’s second female bank manager in Alberta in 1976.
Jackie enjoyed travelling throughout her life, and travelled extensively throughout Europe, visiting France, Germany, Italy, Ireland, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, the UK, and Ukraine, as well as many Canadian and US destinations with her husband, daughter, son-in-law, sister, and friends. During retirement she kept busy by visiting her many friends, learning new hobbies, and staying active in golf and curling leagues. She contributed to the community by volunteering at the Foothills Medical Centre (for over 20 years), Heritage Park, and the Brier Curling Cup.
Jackie cherished her family and friends and delighted in staying connected to everyone in her orbit, across generations and geography. She took great joy in hosting and getting together, whether large celebrations or intimate coffee dates.
Jackie was predeceased by her husband, Steve; her son, Stephen Jonathan; her parents and in-laws; her sister, Sandy; her aunties and uncles, Ruby, Claude, Mary, Jean, Isabelle, and Sandy; as well as her cousins, Robert and Reg. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Flurin Giovanoli; her sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Ron Miller; nieces, Heather Tucker (Dan) and Erin Miller; her grandnephews, Jesse, Luke, William, and Alexander; as well as many cousins and friends.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the dedicated nurses and staff of Units 41 and 42 at the Foothills Medical Centre, as well as Drs. Ricki, Sabourin and Chacko. Our deepest gratitude goes to the incredible Agapé Hospice team, nurses, staff, and Drs. Meshesha (FMC) and Ahamed, whose compassion and care brought comfort and dignity to Jackie in her final days. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial tributes be made directly to the Agapé Hospice, 1302 – 8 Avenue N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 1B8 Telephone: (403) 282-6588, or to the Rosedale Hospice #1245 70 Avenue S.E., Calgary, AB T2H 2X8 Telephone: (403) 284 5195.
