VERNA STUBER 1933 ~ 2025

Verna Stuber (nee: Rath) of Medicine Hat, passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at the age of 91 years, beloved wife of Bill Stuber (deceased).   She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Wayne (Kathy); grandchildren Jennifer, Brant (Candace); great grandsons Caden and Liam; daughter-in-law Wanda Stuber; granddaughters Brandi, Breann and great grandson Jacob; her brother, Marvin (Ruth) Rath; sister-in-law Violet Heller (Edwin deceased) and Delores Gartly (Gerald deceased); as well as many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her youngest son, Warren; her parents Emma and Fred Rath; her sister Gladys, brother-in-law Elmer Schlenker; and her parents-in-law Molly and Frank Stuber.

Verna grew up in the Tothill area on the family farm.  She worked tirelessly on the farm, milking cows, stooking hay, and preparing meals for the harvest crew.  She was a bridesmaid at her sister’s wedding where she met Bill Stuber.  After Bill and Verna married on October 30, 1953, they moved to Bill’s family’s farm south of Medicine Hat in the Wisdom district.  Wayne was born in 1954, and Warren was born in 1959.   She grew a garden, milked cows and tended to farm life.  In 1976, Bill and Verna moved to Medicine Hat.  Verna took a job at Frans Closet in the Southview Mall, and later as a till clerk at the Co-op.  They enjoyed dancing at the Moose Lodge, playing cards with friends and family and going for coffee.  Verna looked after her great grandkids every chance she had. Verna enjoyed spending time with family, ensuring they were well fed with her homemade egg noodles and knefla, chili, jello in a saucer, and going home with a bag full of candy. Bill and Verna were happily married for an impressive 71 years.

Verna spent the last year at The Wellington, where she met new friends and enjoyed watching pool and listening to the music bands. Thank you to The Wellington for your kindness and support over the past 14 months.    The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTRE on Friday, March 7, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. with Life Celebrant David Townsend officiating.   The service will be live streamed.  Those who wish to attend virtually, please visit Verna Stuber’s obituary page on our website, for the link.
