DOROTHY BARTON
Posted: March 14th, 2025 1935 – DOROTHY BARTON – 2025 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dorothy Marilyn Barton, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who passed away on March 12, 2025, at the age of 89 years. Born on June 30, 1935, in Mimico, a suburb of Toronto, Ontario, Dorothy was the daughter of Edward and Marie (Moore) Binions. She grew up in Mimico, where she attended school and briefly worked at Goodyear. On March 5, 1958, Dorothy and her husband, Bruce Barton, moved to Medicine Hat, Alberta, where they would raise their family and create a lifetime of memories. Dorothy married the love of her life, Bruce Barton, on June 30, 1956. Together they raised six children and shared many cherished moments. Bruce predeceased her on April 2, 1999, but their love and devotion to each other continue to inspire their family.
Dorothy was a devoted mother to her children, Brenda (Matt) Toews, Donna (Lynn) Schreiber, Dave (Jaquie) Barton, Brian Barton, Debbie Sibley, and Brent (Lacosta Moser) Barton. She was also a proud grandmother to 19 grandchildren and a great-grandmother to 37 great-grandchildren. Dorothy also leaves many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Marie; her brother, William Binions; her husband, Bruce Barton; and great-granddaughter, Quinn Barton. Throughout her life, Dorothy was known for her kindness, generosity, and her deep love for her family. She found joy in baking and cooking. We always joked that she knew a thousand ways to cook hamburger, and they were all delicious. Her family was always her greatest priority. Dorothy’s warm heart and unshakeable faith were the cornerstones of her life, and she will be remembered for the profound impact she had on everyone who knew her. A private graveside service will be held at Saamis Prairie View Cemetery on April 5, 2025. Donations in Dorothy’s memory may be made to AJ’s Loan Cupboard, P.O. Box 45006, MacKenzie Drug RPO, Medicine Hat, AB T1A 0B1. Dorothy’s legacy of love, devotion, and kindness will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
