FERN MURSCHELL
Posted: March 14th, 2025 FERN MURSCHELL 1948 – 2025 Fern Joanne Murschell, beloved wife of Dexter Murschell, passed away suddenly at the age of 76 years on March 10th, 2025.
Fern was born on March 14, 1948, to Emil and Mary Kundert in Medicine Hat, Alberta. She attended New Hilda School and Medicine Hat High School, graduating in 1966. After furthering her education at Medicine Hat Junior College, Fern began teaching at New Hilda School. In 1967, she married her junior-high sweetheart, Dexter. She later worked for Dominion Glass and AGT in Medicine Hat, often fondly recalling the many friendships she formed during that time.
In the early 1980s, Fern transitioned into working for the family business, where she served as a bookkeeper and controller until her passing. Fern had a deep love for music, animals (especially dogs), and playing the piano. She was also an avid sports fan, with curling, baseball, and basketball being her favourites. Those who knew Fern admired her meticulous organization in all areas of her life.
In addition to her many personal and professional responsibilities, Fern was a devoted caregiver to both her mother and her Aunt Lydia Walker for many years.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Medicine Hat Hospital ICU for their compassionate care during Fern’s final days.
Fern is survived by her loving husband, Dexter; her son, Troy (Tammy); grandchildren, Dawson (Toni) and Nicolas (Hailey); her brother, Darcy (Heather) Kundert; brother-in-law, Warren (Liz); and nieces, Amy (Gavin) Phinney, Chelsea (Curtis) Anaka, and Dayna (Devon) Oullette. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Maurice Kundert, her niece Gillian Murschell, and her in-laws, Clara and Max Murschell.
In accordance with Fern’s wishes, there will be no funeral. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Fern may be made to the Medicine Hat SPCA. Cremation has been entrusted to the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORIUM. To leave a message of condolence you may visit www.pattisonfuneralhome.com.
