MARILYN SAUVE 1944 ~ 2025
It is with much heartache that we announce the passing of Marilyn ‘Joan’ Sauve on July 23, 2025, at the age of 81 years. Joan was born on April 1, 1944, in Drumheller, moving with her family to Medicine Hat in 1958. She married Gerald Sailer, in 1961, though this relationship wasn’t permanent together they had four children, Gordon, David, Allyson (Patrick), and Carolyn (Pat). In 1977, Joan married Walt Sauve, blending their families with a total of eight children.
From the age of five, Joan’s dream was to be a nurse, in 1976 she received her Nursing Diploma with High Honours, an Advanced Mental Health Nursing Certificate in 1993, a Bachelor of Nursing Degree in 1999 and in 2000 a Canadian Nurses Association Certificate in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing.
Highlights of Joan’s thirty plus year nursing career include eighteen years at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, Coordinator of CMHA’s Sexual Abuse Recovery program, owner of New Directions Counselling, and Regional Coordinator for the Southern Alberta Association of Registered Nurses.
In her down time, Joan belonged to the Medicine Hat Rotary Club, Multiple Sclerosis Society, Medicine Hat College Nursing Alumni, and was a lifelong member of St. John’s Presbyterian Church; traveled extensively with Walt; and enjoyed time with the ladies from ‘Book Club’ and Thursday’s card group.
Joan or ‘Grandma Soggy’ will be sadly missed by her grandchildren, Arlo (Gerry), Safra, Ryland (Chelsea), Zenon (Janaya), Javen (Aliya), Zackery (Sabrina), Kade (Naomi), Israel (Callum), and Valen (Scarlett); great grandchildren, Parker, Malakai, Branson, Audrey, Sullivan, and Sophia; and beloved Shih Tzu, of fourteen years, Hardie.
