LORRAINE SCHWENGLER
Posted: August 1st, 2025 LORRAINE SCHWENGLER November 8, 1942 ~ July 22, 2025
It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of our wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Lorraine Adele Schwengler, on Tuesday, July 22nd, 2025.
Lorraine will be missed and remembered by her husband of 60 years, Jerry; her daughter, Tannis (Stormr) and her son, Trent (Michelle); grandchildren: Tyler, Kaitlyn (Dustin), Raeanne (Boyd), Jerrick and Jaxson; great-grandchildren, Declan, Adeline and Blaire; brother, Darcy (Carol); sisters-in-law, Lorraine (Carl), Terri and Shirley along with many nieces, nephews and friends. Lorraine was predeceased by her parents, Archie (1986) and Anne (2006); brother, Conrad (2022) and brother-in-law, Richard (2002)
Lorraine was born on November 8, 1942, to Archie and Anne Skaalrud in Wadena, Saskatchewan and later moved to Regina. In 1962 when Lorraine was 20, she and her friend Verna decided to work in various cities, making their way to California. However, in 1963, at a dance one night in Calgary, Lorraine met Jerry, which foiled her plans to move to California. Jerry and Lorraine were married in 1965 and resided in Calgary until 1967, when they packed up and moved to Terrace. While in Terrace for nine years, Jerry and Lorraine had Tannis in 1969 and Trent in 1974.
In 1976, Jerry was offered a job that included a move to Medicine Hat where much of Jerry’s family already resided. Jerry accepted the position and they made the move. Medicine Hat is where they stayed to make their permanent home. While in Medicine Hat, Lorraine applied for and became employed by Health Products where she worked for almost 40 years. Working at Health Products was not only her job but also became her passion, where she enjoyed working with the public and helping people to the best of her ability.
Jerry and Lorraine lived on an acreage for almost 30 years, where Lorraine enjoyed many pets that included her “buddies,” as she called them, ducks, geese, and chickens. She also loved having her grandchildren come and stay with her often entertaining the kids so enthusiastically that they wanted to stay at Grandma’s house.
If you have ever met Lorraine, the chances are high that you didn’t get a handshake; instead, you received a Lorraine hug. She will be missed by many.
The family would like to acknowledge the staff at River Ridge Seniors Village, where Lorraine resided for the last 7 months of her life. You, the staff, were all amazing in your care of our mother. The family thanks you.
A Celebration of Lorraine’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Murray Jaster officiating.
