LESLIE WILLIAM PAYNE

LESLIE WILLIAM PAYNE November 16, 1943 July 31, 2025 It is with sadness we announce that Les lost his lengthy battle with cancer on July 31, with his family surrounding him in love.
Leslie was born to Hilda and Russell Payne in Stettler, AB. He married Laraine in 1964 and was a loving and devoted father to 3 children. Les worked in retail, and for the Federal Government as the Inspector in Charge at Brooks and retired after 33 years of service. His favourite job was being Santa for the community.
Les joined the Masonic organization and affiliated with Brooks Lodge #73. Les joined Helen Chapter 91, Order of the Easter Star, and became Worthy Grand Patron of Alberta in 2014.
He was artistic and creative and won many prizes for his store decorations and parade floats. He enjoyed car racing, visiting, and playing bridge.
Les is survived by his wife, Laraine; daughter, Cindy (Wayne); sons, Keith (Joanne), Mark (Sheila); special son, Nobuhiko (Wei); grandchildren: Ryan (Rebecca), William (Kailyn), Scott (Heather), Amanda (Jon Regan), Leslie (Ashley), Nicole (Wayne), Jacob (Rae), Nicholas, Mason, Ann, Ken; great-grandchildren: Amelia, John, Nolan, Tobias, Meria, Cora, Amber, Hunter, Liam, Preston, Sacura, Marcus; brother, Stan (Aileen); brothers and sisters-in-law; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Les was predeceased by his parents, Russell and Hilda; two brothers; and one sister.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Joseph’s Home Carmel Hospice or charity of your choice.
Funeral Service will be held on August 8, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. at St. Barnabas Church – 635 4th St SE Medicine Hat AB. Private interment to follow.

    I enjoyed our time when Les came to Calgary for a short time.We found out that we were related and that become a good friendship and kept in touch from then on. Les was a honest person and told it the way it was when working with the CFIA . Our thoughts and prayers are with the family❤️
