COLETTE VOLUND 1947 ~ 2025 Colette Ann Volund, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 31, 2025, in the care of the earnest, compassionate palliative team on 5 East in Medicine Hat Hospital.
She was surrounded by the love of her family in her hospital room and around the world. She is survived by those able to attend to her in person, her sister, Genifer Brown, her daughter and son-in law Leigh and Ross Chamney Lavigne, and her loving granddaughter, Sophia. She is also survived by her brother, Shane Klotz.
The rest of her family was present in spirit and spoken of often. Colette’s eldest son, Jason Chamney, his wife, Kirstin Wolff, and her grandson, Sebastian who she thought the world of.
She will also be missed by her other more geographically distant granddaughters for whom she predicted great things: Sarah Chamney (Switzerland) and Solenne Wolff (Montreal).
Although Colette faced several health challenges in her life, her determination to find joy was inspiring and contagious. She sacrificed so her children could succeed and was thrilled when her family expanded with grandchildren. These grandchildren rekindled a lifelong friendship with her former husband, Richard Chamney which they both enjoyed until the end of her life. The last several years, Colette experienced significant loss and faced it with enduring strength and compassion. Tragically, in 2020, she lost her son, Rick Chamney, father to Sarah and husband of Manuela. Only a few years later, her youngest brother, Sylvanus Klotz, also passed away. From 2008-2011, her siblings Toni Kaleta and Bart Klotz, her mother, Mary Klotz and her Irish twin sister, Stella Mckie all parished. In 1991, she lost her eldest brother, Joseph Klotz, and in 1993, her father, Adam Klotz.
She was a pillar for her family through all of this.
