JACK SNEDDEN 1933 ~ 2025

It is with profound sadness that the family of Jack Snedden announces his peaceful passing on September 9th, 2025, at the age of 91, surrounded by his loved ones. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Jack will be remembered as a pillar of his community. His life was defined by quiet service, deep community connections, and a love that continues to inspire.

Born in Rosetown, Saskatchewan, on October 26, 1933, to Ruth and Herbert Snedden, Jack’s early years were spent on his grandparents’ farm, where he learned the values of hard work and dedication. He later moved to Lethbridge, where he completed his schooling and developed the strong work ethic that would shape the rest of his life.

Jack’s passion for higher learning led him to graduate from the University of Alberta’s dentistry program in 1956, at the age of 22. Shortly thereafter, he began his long and successful career at the “Dental Clinic” in Medicine Hat, eventually opening River Centre Dental Clinic, in 1979. Over the course of his 43-year career, Jack not only provided expert care to his patients but also mentored many young members of the dental team, always demonstrating compassion, patience, and commitment to excellence.

Jack’s greatest legacy lies close to home. A devoted family man and respected community member, he was known for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering support.

As Chairman of the Board Jack supported the transformational growth of the Medicine Hat College overseeing the opening of the current campus during his tenure. His leadership extended to many aspects of the community as he served with distinction in numerous organizations, including the Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park Association, the Kinsmen Club, the Rotary Club of Medicine Hat, the Medicine Hat Curling Club, the Alberta Dental Association, the Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta, and ACCESS, among countless other volunteer efforts. Jack (with Carol as co-chair) was also instrumental in organizing and leading various provincial and federal political campaigns, further demonstrating their deep commitment to the betterment of their community. His lifelong dedication to service reflected both his zest for life and his passion for building lasting relationships and fostering a sense of belonging. Through his service, he forged many lifelong friendships.

Jack was born with an adventurous spirit that never dimmed. You would find him climbing to the peaks of mountains, casting lines in alpine lakes, hunting with his dog at his side, and travelling to some of the furthest corners of the globe. He was an outdoorsman in the truest sense of the word.

Jack is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Carol, who stood by his side for every achievement and adventure. He will also be remembered by daughters Shann Snedden, Megan Fischer, and Lisa Mackey (Jim); son-in-law Stuart Barvir (Marie); and grandchildren Kady Fischer, Erica Hunter (Randy), Sarah Mackey, Drew Barvir, Jillian Barvir, and Erin Mackey. He was predeceased by his parents and daughter Marty Barvir.

Though we mourn his passing, we also celebrate the extraordinary life Jack lived. Jack’s family finds comfort knowing his spirit lives on in the gardens he cultivated, the lives he touched, and the stories we will continue to tell.

The celebration of his life will take place Friday, September 19th, 2025, at 1:00PM in the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTRE with Life Celebrant David Townsend officiating. The service will be live streamed. Those who wish to attend virtually, please visit Jack’s obituary page for the link.
