We are heartbroken to announce the peaceful passing of our dad Leonard on October 2nd in Nanaimo, British Columbia.
Dad was the 2nd eldest child to Emil and Katie Lutz. He grew up on the family farm near Seven Persons with his three
sisters Marilyn, Caroline and Brenda. All of whom he was sadly predeceased by. His loved his sisters dearly.
Dad’s interests included fast cars, golf, baseball, travel, Tim Hortons, Harley Davidson, knives, tools and of course
ratchet straps. He was a collector of anything and everything that caught his eye and looked useful. He was very crafty
and had a very successful etching business in the 80’s. A lot of people probably still have mirrors and clocks with Dads
work. In recent times he was obsessed with paracord and made many bracelets. Fridays were coffee day with his gang the
three Glassketeeers!
He was a glassman “Glazier” by trade, working at Capital Glass, Speedy Glass and then his own business as Leonard’s Mobile Glass.
Dad knew and met so many people! He was a social butterfly for sure!
Dad married his first wife Jean Stiff and they had two children Tracy and Brad who were both able to be with him during his last days.
We will miss him very much.
In the last 36 years Dad and his “sweethang” Darlene, have moved to Nanaimo, they have travelled extensively in Canada, the
USA, golfing in Mexico and cruised to Alaska and the Caribbean. They came home every year to visit family and friends. A highlight
of one of their trips was to Toronto to get their “toonie dog” and cheer on the Blue Jays.
In Nanaimo he worked for Budget Glass where he made more life long friends. After taking a construction course to learn
B.C. regulations, he again started his own business “Kodiak Windows and Screens”. He loved doing the retractable screens
until his retirement about four years ago.
He will be greatly missed by Darlene, his daughter Tracy Haupt(Steve), son Brad Lutz(Michelle). His step daughter Marci
Delisle(Doug), stepson Scott Rathwell(Kathy). Grandchildren Paige Haupt(Jayson), Cody Haupt(Zahra), Jamie Fox, Tanner
Fox(Karli&Alice), Owen Lutz, Kassidy Sagrafena(Tanner), Ty Delisle(Emma) and one great grandson Mac Sagrafena. All of who
referred to him as “Opa”.
As well as family and friends he kept in touch with on facebook, his main source of entertainment these last years. He left
a lasting impression on everyone and many say he was “best friend you could have”.
There will be a celebration of life in Nanaimo in November and then another in Medicine Hat in June of 2026.
