Carman leaves behind his children to mourn and cherish his memory, Rob (Colleen) Reny, Cindy (Kevin) Bradley, Zachary (Kim) Malone, Crystal Craven, Luke Gosselin, Candace (Matt) Gosselin; his grandchildren, Gage, Brandon, Rebecca, Michael, Brody, Daniel, Rayne and Cross; two brothers David (Tina) Gosselin and Tassie Weiss, two sisters Toni-Lyne Lemay and Dixie Bellrose, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other family. Carman was predeceased by his parents, Betty “Dolly” Doris Bliss and Joseph “Zach” Michel Gosselin; four sisters, Beverly Gosselin, Marianne Gosselin, Betty (Doon) Taylor, and Frances (Meme) Gosselin; and two brothers, Larry Gosselin and Rodney Weiss.
Carman was born in Medicine Hat on April 9, 1946, to Dolly Bliss and Zach Gosselin. He went to school at Elizabeth Street School, Elm Street School and Alexandra Junior High School. He was a kind, generous, thoughtful, intelligent, strong and funny man with the gift of storytelling. He grew up poor and learned to get by on his wits and resourcefulness. Always looking for adventures or to escape poverty, he started hopping freight trains from the age of 12 and had travelled across Canada by the time he was 15. He began boxing at age 11 and won his Golden Gloves boxing championship by age 15. He dropped out of school at 15 to do a survival course where they taught him to drive tanks, shoot guns, and other survival skills. At 16, he lived in Thunder Bay and worked as a busboy and made great tips due to his natural charm and charisma. He returned to Medicine Hat at age 17, where he met his first wife, Dianne Gosselin and moved to Edmonton in 1965, where he worked for a cousin doing rebar. Later, he returned to school to get his grade 12 certificate. Scoring exceptionally high in math, he went on to learn how to read blueprints. He later returned to Medicine Hat, had a second marriage to Valerie Gosselin, and started his own company, Savage Steel. For a period, he also owned a popular gym he named Mr. G’s Gym and was a Real Estate Agent. He kept Savage Steel going for many years, often starting work at 5 am, even in harsh winters. He was known for his physical and mental strength. He loved his family and friends and was fiercely loyal. Integrity was important to him, so if he gave you his word, he meant it. In recent years, he was thrilled with the arrival of his youngest grandchildren, little Rayne and Cross, and completely doted on them. Seeing them would light up his heart. He loved to make people laugh with jokes and stories, and especially loved spending time with all his family and his friends. He enjoyed playing pool and was highly skilled at it. He loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycles, drawing, especially Haida art and animals, playing guitar, and watching American Football. Carman had a strong faith in God, which helped him get through some tough times. He was an extremely loved and cherished member of his family and will be forever missed by all who knew him. The funeral service will be held in the River Valley Community Church, (1101 Queen Street SE) on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. To leave a message of condolence and see the full obituary you may visit www.pattisonfuneralhome.com.
