Born on August 22, 1940, Flo was the youngest daughter and spent her childhood on the family farm in the Bindloss area. She attended Forks School and, at the age of 14, left home to attend high school in Medicine Hat, graduating in 1957 while living in residence, as rural students did at that time. She worked at Crystal Dairy for two years before marrying Don Anhorn on October 9, 1959, and moving to Hilda. Flo and Don operated the Imperial Oil Bulk Agency for 34 years while also farming the Anhorn family farm. They were active members of the Hilda community, where Flo served for many years as “Snowy Owl” with the Hilda Brownie Pack. Their home and office were always welcoming, with coffee on for friends and neighbours. Flo and Don shared a love of dancing and music, spending many evenings at Hilda socials and travelling to enjoy dances and festivals with music played by The Mom and Dads and The Badlanders; as well as attending accordion festivals in Kimberly. Summers were often spent at McLaren Lake, where the boat would run from sunup to sundown and Flo made sure everyone family and friends alike were well fed. Flo’s “happy place” was their townhouse in Sparwood, where she enjoyed close friendships, family time, skiing at Fernie in the winter, and golfing with siblings and family in the summer. After Don’s passing, Flo treasured road trips with her daughters, including visits to Moose Jaw, throughout British Columbia, and a memorable trip to Mexico to visit Donna and Brian. She took great joy in the arrival of her twelve great-grandchildren and cherished every opportunity to spend time with them, especially during her later years. The family extends heartfelt thanks to all staff particularly nursing, Pure Energy, and recreation programs at Masterpiece, as well as Dr. Shrives, for their compassionate care. In keeping with Flo’s wishes, a private service will be held.
