KATHLEEN TREUER January 5, 1944 ~ December 13, 2025
Mrs. Kathleen Graham Treuer, beloved wife of the late Mr. Helmut Treuer, passed away in Medicine Hat on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at the age of 81 years. Kathleen’s memory will forever be cherished by her family: daughter, Catherine Treuer; son, Ian Treuer; grandchildren, Jenessa Treuer, Raven Treuer and Chloe Treuer; great-grandchild, Akyra Treuer-Wegener; brother, Garry Benoit (Shuyen Zhao); sister, Marg (Don) Ogden; sister-in-law, Nancy Benoit and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins both here in Canada as well as in Scotland. Along with Helmut, she was predeceased by her parents, Raymond and Catherine Benoit as well as a brother, Graham Benoit. Kathleen Graham Treuer was born in Aberdeen, Scotland before immigrating to Canada with her family. She was raised on a farm in Compton, Quebec, later moving to London, ON to complete her schooling. This is also where she married her ‘one true love’, Helmut Treuer, on June 19, 1970. Together, they built a life grounded in faith, family and perseverance. Kathleen was a devoted member of Saint Barnabas Anglican Church for more than 30 years. Her faith was a guiding force throughout her life, and she was known for her strong convictions, steadfast spirit and willingness to serve her church community. Kathleen had a thirst for knowledge, so after raising her family, she returned to college and graduated with honors as a member of Phi Theta Kappa. Professionally, Kathleen worked as a bookkeeper for a number of businesses, where her diligence, reliability, and attention to detail were greatly valued. She was known as a hard-working woman with a strong will and an unwavering sense of responsibility. Outside of work, Kathleen found joy in simple and meaningful pursuits. She loved making pickles and salsa, tending her garden and spending time with horses. An avid traveler, she explored Canada from coast to coast and enjoyed overseas travels with her family. Kathleen was also a loyal fan of the Montréal Canadiens, proudly supporting her favorite hockey team. She loved animals of all kinds and had a special bond with her adopted “great-granddog” Midnight. A come and go celebration of Kathleen’s life will be held in the church hall at St. Barnabas Anglican Church, 635 – 4 Street S.E., Medicine Hat on February 20, 2026, between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. If friends so desire, tributes in memory of Kathleen may be made to the I.C.U. at the Medicine Hat Hospital, c/o the Medicine Hat & District Health Foundation, 666 – 5 Street S.W., Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 4H6 or to the horsemanship program at Eagles Nest Ranch, suite 4, 660 – 2 Street S.E., Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 0C9.
