Posted: January 29th, 2026 ARTHUR SCHMIDT 1926 ~ 2026 Arthur “Art” Schmidt, beloved husband of Bernice Schmidt of Medicine Hat, passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at the age of 99 years. Art was born on May 5, 1926, near Golden Prairie, Saskatchewan, to Adam and Ida Schmidt. Along with his loving wife Bernice, Art leaves to cherish his memory, three daughters, Lavia Bartlett, Denise (Patrick) Ries and Lynnette (Rudy) Holland; six grandchildren, Chrystal Rieger (Colin Steed), Cory Rieger, Tyler (Rhelynn) Ries, Tanya (Jason) Van Dam, Stacy (Ryan) Massey and Tina (Scott) Maynes; 14 great grandchildren, Heaven Rieger, Colton Rieger Steed, Hunter Rieger, Cayleb Rieger, Kalen Rieger, Cruz Ries, Taye Ries, Reece Van Dam, Harlo Van Dam, Nathan Maynes, Dylan Maynes, Rylee Maynes, Ben Massey and Audrey Massey; two sisters, Delores Mutschler and Sister Alice Gerber and his brother-in-law, Cliff (Audrey) Woelfle. He was predeceased by his parents, Adam and Ida Schmidt; two sisters, Elsie Beck and Frieda Giese; three brothers, Otto Schmidt, Harold Schmidt and Marvin Schmidt; his son-in-law, Eric Bartlett; his brother-in-law, Allan (Kay)Woelfle; his sister-in-law, Elnora (Ed) Heine and his great granddaughter, Brooklyn Rieger. Art will be truly missed and fondly remembered by anyone who crossed his path of life, he was a special man with the heart of Jesus. The family would like to thank Dr. Monty, Dr. Majeed, and the doctors, nurses and staff from 5 East and 2 North; your compassion, comfort and care was greatly appreciated. The funeral service will be held in the VICTORY LUTHERAN CHURCH (2793 Southview Drive SE), on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. with Bishop James Bredeson, Lead Pastor Roland Weisbrot and Associate Pastor Grant Crichton officiating. Immediately following the service, you are welcome to join the family for fellowship and refreshments in the Hall. A private family interment will take place in the HILLSIDE CEMETERY.
