MABEL EREMENKO 1939 ~ 2026
Mabel Irene Eremenko, beloved wife of Daniel Eremenko of Medicine Hat, formerly of Consul, SK, passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the age of 86 years. She also leaves to cherish her memory, her three daughters, Cindy (Terry) Geiger, Cheryl Eremenko and Cori (Tom) Amundrud; six grandchildren, Brandi (Steven) Kent, Cole (Kristy) Geiger, Wyatt (Jodi) Geiger, Dane (Marissa) Eremenko, Celine (Colton) Warawa and Alora (Logan) Elder; her two sisters, Doreen Kobitz and Marlene (Wilf) Horton; her ten great grandchildren, Taliah, Seth and Grace Kent, Blaire and Levi Geiger, Whitney and Logan Geiger, Miller and Harrison Eremenko and Stetson Elder; her brothers-in-law, Tom (Marianne) Eremenko and Reg (Gloria) Eremenko and her sisters-in-law, Joyce Lewis and Betty (Dick) Stokke. Mabel was predeceased by her parents, Jacob and Irene (Nobel) Zeeb; her parents-in-law, Earl and Polly (Kollesavich) Eremenko; her brother, Elcon Zeeb; her sister, Diana Thompson; four brothers-in-law, Larry Thompson, Lorne Kobitz, Daniel Heller and Jerry Lewis and two sisters-in-law, Joan Zeeb and Dorothy Eremenko. Mabel was the second of five children born to Jack and Irene (Nobel) Zeeb and was raised and educated to grade nine, in the Newheim District, southeast of Walsh, AB. She then boarded in Maple Creek, SK for high school. After high school, Mabel worked in the old hospital and Dixon Store. Later she moved to Medicine Hat, AB, where she worked in a nursing home as well as at the Glass Factory in Redcliff. Mabel met her lifelong love, Daniel, at a country schoolhouse dance, and after five years of courtship, they were married on her 19th birthday, in 1958. They moved to the ranch south of Govenlock, SK, where Mabel remembers the first years as a struggle: living in a small old trailer, not very warm, infested with mice (which she had no love for), no running water, no electricity and their well was their fridge. They ranched until recent years in partnership with their daughter, Cheryl, before turning it over to the next generation. In 2000, they bought their retirement condo in Medicine Hat, where they still reside. Mabel sewed, had a huge garden and a beautiful yard, probably more out of necessity than passion. She enjoyed reading, curling, snow skiing, movies, her favorite soap opera and traveling to such places as Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, Arizona, Vancouver, Las Vegas, Hawaii, cruises to Alaska and Panama and skidooing in Yellowstone and fishing and camping with family and friends. She also enjoyed playing card games until recently. Mabel’s greatest love was her family. She always made everyone feel special by remembering their birthdays and cooking them a great meal when they visited. Their daughters are so proud of their mom and dad for their lifelong relationship of 67 years, as well as their investment in all of their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, who they always had time for and taught many important life lessons. Some of the amazing final gifts she gave to her family were plenty of hugs and kisses, I love you’ s, her superb sense of humor that she blessed them with until the very end, and finally, asking Jesus into her heart in August 2025. We will see her again! The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTRE on Friday, February 13, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Ken Roset officiating.
