1938 ~ MARILYN DELONG ~ 2026
On the afternoon of January 19, 2026, Marilyn Joy DeLong, aged 87, was welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus. She will be lovingly remembered and deeply cherished by her devoted husband, David DeLong; her children, Lise (Lyle) Bayer, Ken (Laura) DeLong, and Gail (Shade) Holmes; her grandchildren, Adrienne (Trevor) Brum, step-grandson, Cory (Melanie) Bayer, Olivia and Jackson DeLong, and Joshua, Sophia, and Addison Holmes; her great-grandchildren, Kaylan and Jerika Brum; as well as two sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. A proud Maritimer, Marilyn, was born and raised in Havelock, New Brunswick, the youngest of four children born to Ora and Anne Thorne, all of whom predeceased her. On October 4, 1958, she married the love of her life, Dave, beginning a devoted partnership that spanned over six decades. A few years later, Marilyn and Dave made their way west to the prairies, building a life rooted in faith, family, and quiet joy. While living in Calgary, they welcomed their first daughter, Lise, in 1964. Two years later, after moving to Lethbridge, their son, Ken, joined the family. Nine years later, while living in Vermillion, they were delighted to welcome their youngest daughter, Gail. In 1978, the family made their final move to Medicine Hat, which has been home ever since. Always well dressed and known for her beautiful smile, warm presence, and quiet kindness, Marilyn was deeply devoted to her family. She took great delight in her grandchildren and treasured time spent with those she loved. Daily coffee dates with Dave at Tim Hortons were a cherished ritual, as were good laughs shared with friends. Marilyn’s home was one of warmth and welcome there was always a tin of brownies on the counter, and her signature desserts were a much-loved highlight at family gatherings. Proud of her Maritime roots, she also enjoyed travelling and especially loved visits from her grandchildren and extended family. Marilyn’s family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to the staff at The Wellington Retirement Residence for their support and excellent care of Marilyn. A Memorial Service honouring Marilyn’s life will be held at Heights Baptist Church, 1250 Division Ave S, Medicine Hat, AB T1A 1W4, on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at 11:00 am with Rev.
