MAGYAR Frank Edward Magyar passed away peacefully on May 2, 2026 at the age of 92 in Edmonton and surrounded by family.
Frank is survived by siblings Louis (Beth) Magyar and Isabelle Magyar; children Bruce Magyar, Christine (Eric) Barringham, Dan Magyar (Joy Alford), and Anna (Doug) Cooper; grandchildren Joseph, Amy and Sean Barringham; Ben and Elliot Magyar; and Jessica, Kathleen and Brooklyn Cooper. He was predeceased by his second wife, Helen (nee Spiller), first wife Antoinette (nee Chapdelaine), and siblings: Bert (Bea) Magyar, Mary (Louis) Revak, Margaret (Bob) Lang, and Jolane (Alex) Tokariuk.
Frank was born and raised on the family farm near Taber, Alberta. He graduated from the University of Alberta in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. He had an extensive career with the provincial highways department and with the City of Edmonton. He was a family man and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid ballroom dancer and played a variety of musical instruments. He was a boisterous singer with his guitar at the campfire, and in his retirement he was in multiple bands that predominantly entertained at retirement homes.
A memorial service and reception will be held on Friday, June 5 at the Westlawn Funeral Home, 16310 Stony Plain Rd, Edmonton. Viewing will commence at 1:00 pm, with the memorial service starting at 2:00 pm
The interment will be held on Monday June 8 at 1:30 pm at the Mountain View Cemetery, 1210 Scenic Dr S, Lethbridge. This will be followed by a reception at 3:00 pm at the Italian Canadian Cultural Center, 1511 St Edward Blvd N, Lethbridge.
